ASHEVILLE (also in English)

ASHEVILLE
Asheville Asheville

ASHEVILLE
(Original version)

Asheville, Asheville
You that broke my heart
In painful stampede
You made a hole in my chest
On a moonless night
You saw my child bleeding
Screaming in silence
About to die.

You, miraculous Asheville
You gave him back to my arms!

Mother of my son
Holding him between your breasts
Of wild cherries and pines
Land of hope
You raised an altar of faith
At the end of the Beaucatcher tunnel
At the core of your mountains
Blue Ridge Mountains
You kissed Roberto
You baptized him again
Between the French Broad River
And the Beaver Lake.

You gave him the secret formula
To stay alive
The portion of faith to survive.

You, Asheville
Men, women, haven
Woods, prairies, concrete
Wellness Center
Volunteers of love
Hospital Cafeteria
Angel voices of friends…

You, Asheville
Transformed the vertigo
The overwhelming loneliness
Of the saddest day on my calendar
Into a solemn morning to celebrate and cry.

You, sacred Asheville
Blessed catharsis
Soothsayer
Gap
You made me deliver
The same child for a second time.

Wow I am speechless. I have never been an especially religious man, but I would be a fool not to admit that the something divine was at work in that hospital room. I won't forget those moments as long as I live - and I had not even met Robert at the time.

Well, thanks for your presence in such a terrible but at the same time sacred moment of our lives. You, and your family, and so many angels, gave Robert the courage to comeback!
